Nuwara Eliya
Just 45 kilmoteres away from the country house is Nuwara Eliya—which translates to “city of the plains” in Sinhala. Nicknamed “Little England”, the place exudes a British country-side vibe owing to the perennial temperate climate, tended hedgerows and gardens. Nuwara Eliya is considered to be the most important location for tea production in Sri Lanka.
Hakgala Botonical Garden
16 kilmetres from Nuwara Eliya is the Hakgala Botanical Garden. It is the second largest garden in Sri Lanka and part of the Hakgala Nature Reserve. The park has over 10,000 species of flora and is famous for a number of species of Orchids and Roses.
Ella
Just 10 km from the property is the town of Ella. It is a small backpacker-hub. We highly recommend a drive to the town because it offers exquisite views of tea estates, mountains, waterfalls and of course, lots and lots of fresh air.
Horton Plains
The Horton Plain national park is located 43 km from the hotel. The 3169-hectare park is at an altitude of 2300 m from sea level and is covered by Montane forests and grasslands. It is home to Kelaart’s long-clawed shrews, toque macaques, purple-faced langurs, rusty-spotted cat, Sri Lankan leopards, wild boars, stripe-necked mongooses, Sri Lankan spotted chevrotains, Indian muntjacs, grizzled giant squirrels, and many more species of flora and fauna.
Yala National Park
The Yala National Park is approximately 150 km away from the hotel. It is the second-largest national park in Sri Lanka covering 979 square kilometres. It is home for many exotic birds like the Sri Lankan grey hornbill, Sri Lankan junglefowl, Sri Lankan wood pigeon, crimson-fronted barbet, black-capped bulbul, blue-tailed bee-eater and Brown-capped babbler. The park also has elephants, leopards and sloth bears.
Udawalawe National Park
Approximately 100 km away from the hotel is the sixth largest animal park in Sri Lanka, the Udawalawe National Park. The reserve covers 30,821 hectares of land area and provides sanctuary for Sri Lankan Elephants, Leopards, Sambar Deer, spotted chevrotain, wild boar, water buffalos, Golden jackal, Asian palm civet, toque macaque, tufted grey langur and Indian hare.
